The Grammys 2022 — What went down
After the drama of the Oscars the Grammys had a lot to live up to. A night of red carpet looks, and awards to be given.
A good night for R&B singer Jon Batiste who picked up 5/11 awards that he was nominated for including album of the year for We Are.
Pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo scored 3 Grammys, including Best New Artist, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album for her debut album Sour
However, Most of the big awards on the night went to Silk Sonic, aka R&B superduo Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak. They took home a whopping 4 Grammys, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song.
Among the other winners include Doja Cat, Jazmine Sullivan and Dream Theater.
An emotional tribute to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins was paid as well as the band picking up 2 awards. As well as a touching tribute by Billie Eilish who wore a T-shirt with Hawkins face on while performing a live rendition of her hit single ‘Happier than Ever’
Along with the winners of the night there were plenty of shocks and snubs as Billie Eilish didn’t do as well as planned, not taking home any awards. And sadly as an Arlo Parks fan I was disappointed to see that collapsed in sunbeams, didn’t do as well as I would have hoped.
An odd occurrence was Glass Animals who had a hit with their single ‘Heat Waves’ last year. This led to them being nominated for best new artist 8 years after the release of their debut LP, but got overthrown by teen sensation Olivia Rodrigo.
Another surprise of the night was comedian Bo Burnham winning a grammy for best song written for visual media for ‘All Eyes On Me’ from his netflix special Inside.
Trevor Noah returned for a second year in a row to host, with performances from BTS, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo and more..
